Top Vegan Eats in Winnipeg

Verde Juice Bar

Verde Juice Bar

Hey! I’m Cede. For anyone who doesn’t know, I’m the creator and owner of Spreads by Cede, hence the name of course. I originally wrote this blog post for my other blog…. Greener is the New Black (if you aren’t following along yet, head over there and do that!). But after re-reading it, I realized that ALL of these place are local, and as a local business owner, I know how important it is to support your fellow local companies. So I thought why not throw this on here!

Winnipeg definitely offers a wide range of vegan food in the restaurant industry and it for sure seems to be a work in progress at a lot of places across the city… But I definitely have a few favourites that I wanted to highlight here.

                -Circle Kitchen

This one was a HUGE catch a few years ago (and of course it still is) because it was one of the first restaurants in the city that was COMPLETELY vegan. It’s also located on one of the most bumpin areas in the city, Corydon Avenue. I have only visited this place twice, but both times were unbelievably delicious and I was so impressed with the quality of food they put on your plate. They also always have some tasty treats for dessert or a snack, and their lattes are to die for.

                -Falafel Place

Honestly, this place never fails. It’s not fully vegan, but the options are clearly highlighted on the menu and my boyfriend and I literally used to go on a weekly basis because we couldn’t get enough. Better yet, the prices are cheap, but the portions are NOT. You don’t get what you pay for, you get WAY more and will always leave feeling satisfied. Plus they have the most delicious hot sauce on planet earth.

                -Acorn Café

I love this cute little café in the Exchange District (the heart of Winnipeg). It’s always featuring local businesses on the menu and yes, everything is vegan! They offer things like bagels, donuts, cookies, salads, soup, veggies, and unreal lattes. And the best part, it’s attached to the most eco-friendly shop in the whole city; Generation Green.

                -Cocoa Beans

For all my gluten sensitive or Celiac pals out there, if you haven’t been here, you NEED TO TRY IT. The entire place is free of gluten, and their menu features local food and the vegan items are clearly marked. I can’t forget to mention how incredibly friendly the staff are! Such a lovely little place..

                -Stella's

This is a classic. If you’re from Winnipeg I’m sure you’ve been or at least heard of Stella’s. They don’t go too far with the vegan options on their menu BUT they are marked with the “plant-based” symbol and I’ve never had anything from there that wasn’t 10/10 delicious.

                -Oh Doughnuts

I’ve always loved doughnuts, but I went through a “health craze” a few years ago and stopped allowing myself to enjoy them… then of course I began to eat plant-based and thought I’d never eat a doughnut again. Until I discovered the tastiest little doughnut shop in Winnipeg. They offer a handful of vegan options every day, and sometimes gluten free AND vegan (which I actually prefer even though I don’t eat gluten free). Their flavours change everyday, and they always post them on their website and Instagram!

Boon Burger Cafe

                -Boon Burger

Vegan burgers are the best invention ever. And Boon Burger has 100% mastered that art. Everything here is plant-based, from salads, to poutine, to (obviously) burgers. They’re located on Sherbrook Street and offer a cute little space to enjoy your food, as well as a small patio in the summer. This is one of those places that has you questioning if your food is actually vegan or not… yes, yes it is, and it is UHmazing.

                -Roughage Eatery

The newest vegan spot in Winnipeg started from a catering company that used to set up at markets throughout the city until they recently opened up their very own eatery on Sherbrook Street. Everything they make is fresh and delicious. Things like nacho cheese, “Turkey”, and “pepperoni” are all made in house and made vegan and SO GOOD. They also love their fellow local companies and showcase them right in their store. You will not be disappointed!

                -Verde Juice Bar

Last but definitely not least, Verde Juice Bar. When I first found out about this place I was overwhelmed with excitement! At the time, it was everything I ever dreamed of (food wise) in one space… Delicious salads, smoothie bowls, avocado toast, amazing coffee, and even better juice! They’re small menu is big on taste and healthy eats, and it’s located in the heart of the cutest, quietest neighbourhood; Wolseley.

There are for sure a few others that I would love to include in here, but these are all places that I’ve been to multiple times, and have never had a bad experience at! These places are all local and show how plant-based eating can be fun, filling, and delicious. If you’re wanting to dabble a bit more in plant-based eating or support more local businesses, HIT THESE PLACES UP!
